On March 29, 2025, the people of Bali will celebrate Nyepi Day, which marks the Caka New Year 1947. As a day of silence and reflection, all activities are suspended, including the use of fossil fuel-powered motor vehicles. In an effort to support the smooth running of the pecalang’s duties, Sentrik is contributing by providing electric motorcycles as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.

Real Support from Sentrik for Pecalang

As guardians of security and traditional order, pecalang play an important role during Nyepi celebrations. They ensure that Nyepi rules are obeyed by the community, including maintaining peace and order in traditional villages. Considering the needs of pecalang, Sentrik has provided a number of electric motorcycles that are ready for use in their operations.

The electric motors provided include several models, namely:

These units were distributed to several banjars participating in the program, namely:

  • Br. Anyar
  • Br. Anyar Kaja
  • Br. Batu Belig
  • Br. Peliatan
  • Br. Pecatu

Each banjar received 3 to 4 electric motorcycles that could be used immediately to support the pecalang in maintaining order during Nyepi.

The Advantages of Electric Motorcycles in Pecalang Use Cases

The use of electric motorcycles for pecalang is a step forward in improving the efficiency of their duties. Previously, pecalang relied on transportation by walking or cycling, which certainly limited their mobility. Conventional fossil fuel motorcycles cannot be used because the noise they produce contradicts the essence of Nyepi’s silence.

With electric motorcycles, pecalang can:

  • Move faster and more efficiently on patrol
  • Maintaining calm without disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of Nyepi
  • Reduces physical fatigue compared to walking or cycling
  • Utilizing more environmentally friendly vehicle technology

Environmental Benefits and Government Policy

This step is also in line with the policy of Bali Governor Wayan Koster, who encourages the use of battery-powered electric vehicles in Bali through:

This policy aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support the transition to clean energy in Bali. Although public opinion on the use of electric motorcycles for pecalang remains mixed, this step is part of a long-term transformation toward a more environmentally friendly transportation system. Centric Sustainable Commitment

The collaboration between Sentrik and the banjar communities in Bali in providing electric vehicles is not the first of its kind, and will continue in the future. In addition to providing direct support to the pecalang, this initiative is also clear evidence of how electric motorcycles can bring broader benefits, both in terms of operational efficiency and positive environmental impact.

With this support, it is hoped that the pecalang’s task of maintaining the sanctity and tranquility of Nyepi Day can be carried out more optimally, while also introducing the benefits of electric vehicles in the daily lives of the Balinese people.
