The Central Government’s policy to subsidize electric vehicles has been met with enthusiasm from the public, including residents of Bali. This has led to an increase in the number of consumers transacting at electric motorcycle dealerships. PT Sentrik Persada Nusantara, a prominent electric motorcycle dealer in Denpasar City, reported a transaction increase of approximately 50% since the initiation of the electric vehicle subsidy program on March 20, 2023. “There has been a significant increase, about 50% from the previous average of 5 transactions per day,” stated General Manager of PT Sentrik Persada Nusantara, Pande Yulia Sanjaya.

It is noted that several electric motorcycle brands receive a government subsidy of IDR 7 million per unit. Six electric motorcycle manufacturers, namely Gesits, Selis, Volta, Smoot, Viar, and United, have products that benefit from this subsidy. Pande revealed that several purchase applications using the subsidy scheme are currently being processed for approval by the Central Government.

As announced by the government, eligible consumers for the electric motorcycle purchase subsidy include Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially those who have received the People’s Business Credit (KUR), recipients of the Productive Micro Business Assistance (BPUM), and electricity customers of 450-900 VA. Pande advised the public, who might be uncertain about the subsidy eligibility criteria, not to worry. They can simply bring their Population Identification Number (NIK) to the dealer for verification. “We log in using the NIK, and if eligible, they can proceed to choose a motorcycle, and we submit the application,” he explained.

Pande also mentioned that they sell motorcycles that, after receiving the subsidy, are priced at around IDR 9 million. However, he added that the motorcycles of interest to the subsidy recipients are not limited to specific brands or prices. Additionally, the electric motorcycle subsidy is also available to those wishing to convert their conventional fuel-powered motorcycles to electric. The requirements and subsidy amounts are the same as purchasing a new electric motorcycle.

However, the electric motorcycle conversion subsidy in Bali seems to be on hold due to challenges in the scrutinering process (vehicle assessment after modification), which is a prerequisite for the subsidy. Currently, the scrutinering process can only be conducted in Jakarta. I Putu Agus Saskara, the Business Development Manager of Makara, a company that offers electric motorcycle conversion services in Bali, stated that current regulations in Bali allow converted motorcycles not to undergo the scrutinering process, as long as they still meet factory standards. “We are currently awaiting the certification process for several conversion workshops in Bali so they can conduct the scrutinering process independently,” Agus Saskara revealed.
