On a significant day, Thursday, August 24th, 2023, the Cempaka Room of the PLN UID (Unit Induk Distribusi) Bali office was abuzz with anticipation. A monumental collaboration was about to be inked, marking a pivotal moment in Indonesia’s journey towards a sustainable future. The Proof of Concept (PoC) for the Two-Wheeled Electric Vehicle Ecosystem at PLN UID Bali was officially signed.

This collaboration wasn’t just any ordinary agreement. It was a testament to the unwavering commitment of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), Indonesia’s state-owned electric utility, to champion the cause of electric mobility. Their dedication to the environment and sustainable development has been evident through their extensive infrastructure rollout to bolster the country’s Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem. This initiative aims to transition Indonesia’s EV ecosystem from upstream to downstream, thereby significantly reducing carbon emissions from transportation.

The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) has been a pillar of support in this endeavor. Minister Erick Thohir reiterated the government’s commitment to nurturing the EV ecosystem, referencing President Joko Widodo’s Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019 on the Acceleration of the Battery Electric Vehicle Program for Road Transportation. PLN, along with other BUMN, has been entrusted with the task of fast-tracking the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.

The agreement, signed by PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) IUD Bali in collaboration with Hyundai Kefico and PT DAT Mobility System, marks a monumental step in the Bali and Indonesian government’s commitment to accelerate the ecosystem for electric two-wheelers. Also present during the signing was Mrs. Nyoman Ayu Cyntia Diantari, representing PT Sentrik Persada Nusantara, the initiator of this groundbreaking project and authorized distributor for E3 Mobility.

Mr. Chun Jay Un, the General Manager of Hyundai Kefico, took the opportunity to introduce the company’s vision and mission. “At Hyundai Kefico, the name ‘Kefico’ stands for Korea Eco Friendly Innovative Corporation,” he began. He delved into the company’s Research & Development strategy, emphasizing the Electric Vehicle 2 Wheel Solution, branded as Mobilgo, and the Electric Vehicle Charger for 4-wheelers, known as “Blue Plug”.

Established in September 1987, Hyundai Kefico has grown exponentially. By January 2023, the company boasted a workforce of 3,727 employees and had made significant strides in sectors such as Powertrain, HEC/EV, FCEV, EV 2 Wheeler, and EV Charger (Blue Plug).

SENTRIK - Kim Young Keun - DAT Mobility

Mr. Kim Young Keun, the President Director of PT DAT Mobility System, outlined the company’s plans for the Bali region. “Initially, our focus will be on ULP Denpasar and ULP Sanur. From June 21 to September 21, 2023, we aim to provide at least 10 out of our planned 20 battery swap & charging stations. Currently, the Hyundai Kefico-branded Powertrain vehicles we serve are the E3 Mobility Type Deux7, which operates on a SWAP by application (web-based) system. However, we are open to future developments. On behalf of PT DAT Mobility System, we hope to contribute to a Greener Future for Bali.”

SENTRIK - Director Operations Nyoman Ayu Cyntia Diantari

Mrs. Nyoman Ayu Cyntia Diantari, the Operational Director of PT Sentrik Persada Nusantara, emphasized the importance of accelerating the electric two-wheeler ecosystem in Bali. “As a leading global tourist destination, Bali sets the benchmark for other regions in Indonesia in preparing for an electric vehicle ecosystem, especially for two-wheelers. Today, we witness the commitment of the government and state-owned enterprises. With the recent subsidize policy easing electric motorcycle purchases, the supporting ecosystem becomes even more crucial. Our vision is clear: a greener, eco-friendlier Bali with emission-free transportation. Leveraging Bali’s tourism, we aim to promote EV-tourism, green-tourism, or zero-emission tourism. As a native Balinese company, we are committed to spearheading this initiative for a better future,” she remarked as she left the PLN UID Bali office after a group photo.

Bali, known for its pristine beaches, vibrant culture, and lush landscapes, is a global tourism hotspot. As such, the island’s transportation system plays a pivotal role in shaping the visitor experience. The introduction and promotion of electric two-wheelers can significantly reduce carbon emissions, ensuring that Bali remains a paradise for generations to come.

In conclusion, the signing of the PoC is not just an agreement on paper; it’s a commitment to a sustainable future. As Bali continues to enchant visitors from around the world, the island’s move towards electric mobility ensures that it remains a haven of natural beauty and cultural richness.
